The Department of Anatomy is in two floors with excellent ventilation and modern infrastructure. The dissection hall is fitted with modern duct like exhaust system. It has a dedicated and highly qualified faculty.

Museum – is one of the ‘jewels in the crown’. The gallery houses an amazing collection of more than 200 wet and dry specimens covering all the regions of the body, besides umpteen number of embryology models and charts.

Histology section – The prestigious hall with a capacity to accommodate 90 students at a time, has a well equipped laboratory and each student is provided with a microscope for microscopic studies.

Departmental library - is well stocked with 110 books.

The Demonstration rooms and seminar hall have been provided with OHPs, LCD and CCTV cameras.

Department of Physiology

The Department of Physiology, housed in a separate block having spaciously built full- fledged laboratories with a modern infrastructural and international standards. The faculty aims at making learning of the subject an interesting and enriching experience. The department is provided with excellent acoustic proof lecture hall, with each student having individual work tables.

Computerised ‘Pulmonary Function Tests’ are routinely carried out and plans are on, to start Nerve Conduction Studies, Lie Detection tests and Yoga therapy.

The faculty guides their students in the analysis, comprehension , critical evaluation and application of knowledge with their in-depth experience, the apt teaching methodology and the latest equipments.

Department of Biochemistry

A sincere, highly qualified & experienced specialist, supported by a dedicated faculty heads the Department of Biochemistry. The faculty has the distinction of integrating all the Pre-clinical, Para clinical and clinical Departments and evolving a novel ‘integrated teaching programme’ for the students.

The Department has a well equipped experimental Laboratory, Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory with fully automated Random Access Analyzer (XL-600), Semi Automated Analyzer, Ion Selective Electrolyte Analyzer and Arterial Blood Gas Analyzer,

The Research laboratory is well equipped for its various research activities.

Department of Microbiology
Currently part of the central diagnostic facility of SSIMS&RC, the Department of Microbiology is well equipped with research microscopes, fluorescent microscopes, dark ground microscopes, ultra centrifuge, laminar air flow and sterilizing equipments.

A Local Area Network (LAN) helps in instantaneous updating of lab reports. The modern lecture halls, seminar rooms, demonstration rooms, practical halls with ultra modern audio visual gadgets and an investigative laboratory which includes both conventional and automated systems facilitate the students to achieve the desired academic accomplishments.

This important division of SSIMS&RC is headed by a senior, committed microbiologist with enormous experience in both undergraduate, postgraduate medical students and research activities.

The department aims to establish a unique Molecular and Virology laboratory, the first of its kind in Central Karnataka.

Department of Pathology
“As is your pathology, so is your practice” said William Osler.

Diagnostic centre, situated in the hospital, is rendering its service, through scientifically designed techniques at the Clinical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, Cytology and Immunohistochemistry divisions.

The department has a fully functional licensed blood bank with a sophisticated component separation and therapy unit, unique of its kind, in central Karnataka.

The Pathology department has two spacious, well equipped practical halls to accommodate ninety students each. The museum has around thousand specimens along with charts, displaying the details of the same and various other teaching modules. Abundance of learning material, in the form of specimens, slides, charts, books, CDs along with latest teaching aids like , high quality demonstration microscopes, digital photography fluorescent, phase contrast and polarizing microscopes, CCTV, LCD, OHP make learning easy.

Experienced, enthusiastic and inspiring qualified teaching faculty adds to the beauty of the department, in creating an interesting and friendly learning atmosphere.

Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
An intriguing and exciting subject to many, Forensic Medicine is a vital branch of medicine that often uncovers the past, usually in relation to crime.

A highly experienced and qualified teaching faculty runs the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department at SSIMS&RC. It is equipped with the most modern equipment to conduct practical and research work in medico-legal case studies by undergraduates.

The gallery of the Department has a vast & wonderful collection of forensic photographs of various crimes and a whole range of charts, models, lethal weapons & toxicology specimens.

A mortuary block is housed in a separate building for conduct of postmortems on medico legal cases. Students can witness postmortem procedures being carried out in the autopsy room from a gallery. It also has a cold storage facility to preserve 6 cadavers at a time.

Community Medicine
Socially responsible medical practices are the need of the hour, especially for a country like ours. Taking the ‘art of healing’ to far flung rural communities, is a science, that calls for utmost dedication and a zeal to serve.

At SSIMS&RC, the Department of Community Medicine is headed by highly experienced, dedicated and committed Community Medicine specialist. It has the finest of facilities, a well stocked library and an excellent museum.

The academic programmes of this department is tailored to inculcate a Research culture and prepare medical graduates for the ‘world class competence’ in Public Health.

It has a very large ‘store house of knowledge’ comprising of 146 medical books in the Departmental library and charts & models displayed in the museum, having a seating capacity of 75 students.

The Institution has adopted 3 Rural Health Centres and one Urban Health Centre for delivering comprehensive health care and specialist facilities in all disciplines of Medicine, to each and every individual residing in the defined geographical area, besides offering holistic approach in teaching curriculum.

Department of General Medicine

The Department is headed by an experienced specialist and assisted by a highly qualified faculty.. Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU) are equipped with “cutting edge” equipments like ventilators, defibrillators and monitors to handle any emergency.

The OPD complex with its six consultation rooms have been provided ECG and Nebulization services to cater to the medical emergencies. In addition, it has TMT room, spirometery and a clinical demonstration room having a capacity of 30-35 students.

The Department is in the process of creating super-specialty units like Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology,Gastroenterology and Endocrinology.

Department of Paediatrics

A highly qualified, experienced , research oriented clinician & academician heads the Department of Paediatrics.

Both NICU and PICU are equipped with advanced facilities like Ventilators, transport incubators, infusion pumps and resuscitation trolleys.

The Out patient department operates special clinics like Asthma clinic, Rehabilitation clinic and Play therapy room. The department is fully geared up to handle all types of emergencies 24 hours a day.

The departmental library is well stocked with the latest edition of books. Throughout the year, academic activities like CME, Training Workshops and conferences are being conducted by the highly qualified faculty.

The Department has been recognized by the “The National Board of Examination” for training DNB candidates

Department of General Surgery
The Department of General Surgery has been developed in line with international standards at SSIMS&RC, with a dynamic faculty that has specialists in each and every field of surgery.

It has 8 well-equipped, state-of-the-art, centrally air conditioned, operation theatres, supported by attached post operative recovery rooms and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The Department has super specialties like Onco-Surgery, Urology and Pediatric Surgery. Other super specialties like Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Reconstructive Surgery are being established in the near future.

Department of Orthopaedics
Senior Consultant with remarkable surgical experience, especially in trauma surgery with vast teaching experience, heads the Department of Orthopedics.

All major and minor orthopaedic surgeries are conducted using the very latest surgical equipments like Image Intensifier, A.O Instruments and Arthroscope. in a state-of-the-art operation theatre.

The Department is in the process of establishing a 24 hours emergency care, Trauma Centre, Sports injury Department, Micro-vascular Surgery, Re-implantation surgery and hand & limb lengthening & deformity corrections.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery offers quality treatment and care to more than 30,000 patients from Karnataka and the neighbouring States.

The faculty is well trained in head & neck surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric Otolaryngology, neurotology, skull-base surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, Laryngology, allergy, audiology, speech pathology and swallowing therapy. In coordination with the Vishwaradhya Cancer Hospital, the department offers comprehensive treatment for head and neck cancers including chemo-radiation.

Supporting these functions, is a team of audiologists, speech pathologists, a dispensing Hearing Aid Center and a comprehensive cochlear implant referral unit.

Department of Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology has a faculty of young, energetic , highly professional and qualified team of doctors. It is well equipped with 3 consultation rooms accommodating 2 Slit Lamp Bio-Microscopes attached by an Application Tonometer, 90D& a Gonioscopic lens, along with a slit lamp attached digital camera. The OPD has a separate specialty clinic for non-invasive ophthalmic investigations.

An operating theatre equipped with Carl Zeiss operating microscope for performing ophthalmic microsurgeries enables the faculty perform thousands of major ophthalmic surgeries every year.

The department is seeking to add the latest technologies such as phaeco-emulsification unit with an automated vitrectomy machine for advanced cataract surgery, Fd YAG Green laser and indirect laser ophthalmoscope for treating diabetic retinopathy and peripheral retinal diseases as well as for up-gradation of pediatric ophthalmic care.

Department of Anesthesiology
The Department of Anesthesiology provides 24/7 anesthetic and analgesic care not only to the in-patients but also renders consultative support to the other specialties; Radiology, electrophysiology, electroconvulsive , intensive care units and outpatient clinics.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art operating theatres, the department provides doctors of tomorrow and anesthetists with world class training in anaesthesiology. Apart from the regular curriculum, there are active peer reviews and proven QA sessions to keep the standard of teaching at the highest pedestal.

With the stated mission to offer the best of teaching, research and clinical services, the department has started pre-anaesthesia clinics, out patient anaesthesia services for day care surgeries, a multidisciplinary pain management centre and cardio respiratory resuscitation programs for students and paramedical staff.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Headed by a senior Obstetrician from Armed Forces Medical Services, the department has an experienced team of professionals as the faculty.

The Department is equipped with latest equipments for performing cryocautery, colposcopy, thermocautery, sonography and neonate resuscitation.

The OPD complex, besides operating routine OPD clinics, runs various other specialized clinics ; cancer detection, high risk pregnancy, post natal care, adolescent Gynaecology, menopause, family welfare and infertility.

The academic wing houses a seminar room equipped with various latest teaching aids, a fast developing museum and a well stocked departmental library.

The Department is in the process of acquiring full range of endoscope equipments like operative laparoscope, hysteroscope, a thermal endometrial ablation machine and a videocolposcope.

Department of Radio-diagnosis

The advancements in imaging Science have given valuable insight into the most elusive part of human body with ultra-modern advanced technologies.

The Department of Radiology at SSIMS&RC is equipped with ultra modern machines, which strives to meet the needs of the patients and clinicians as regards to the diagnostic imaging and image guided therapies

Its stated objective is to provide high quality & advanced imaging , ultrasonography, interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, in addition to the outstanding comprehensive education based teaching programme

The Faculty performs over 300,000 diagnostic studies and therapeutic procedures each year. The department is in the process of procuring & establishing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Tomography (CT), PET, SPECT and Pediatric Imaging facilities
