28th Karnataka State Ophthalmic Conference ( KSOC-2009 ) under theAegis of Karnataka
Ophthalmic Society ( KOS ) hosted by Davangere Ophthalmic Society, J.J.M.Medical College & S.S.Institute of Medical Sciences, Davangere., was held on 27th 28th & 29th –Nov-2009 at Bapuji Auditorium JJMMC Davangere.
Inaugural ceremony was on 27th –Nov-2009 at 11.30 AM amidst the august gathering of more than 650 delegates. Dr. H.R.Chandrashekar., Principal, JJMMC Davangere., was the Chief Guest of the function. Presided by the President Karnataka Ophthalmic Society Dr.Mohan S.Nadiger with other degernataris.

The State Conference included a feast of Scientific Sessions with 100 papers, 90 wall posters & 12 vedeo presentations on various subspecialities. Besides, there were symposiums, seminars, video based skill transfer programme, PG forum, quiz & practice management sessions.
Internationally renowned faculty included Dr. Santhosh Honavar Ocuplasty surgeon & Ocular oncologist from L.V.Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad., was honoured the prestigious Subramaniam Oration award. Guest speekers included Dr. Mahesh Shanmugam., renowned Vitreo Retinal & Ocular oncologist,Bangalore. & Dr. M.S. Ravindra., Immediate Past President, KOS., Bangalore., & many others from various parts of the state & from other States as well.
This Conference was organized by the guidance of other senior members of Davangere Ophthalmic Society included Dr. Madhav Honnatti & Dr. Umesh G.S as Co-Chairman for KSOC-2009 & many others from J.J.M.M.C. Davangere.
1) Conducted a Karnataka State CME EYE -2008 on Glaucoma of Diabetic Retinopathy on

- Dr. Kim Ramaswamy., Chief Vitreo- Retinal Services,Aravind Eye Hospital.,Madurai.

- Dr. Umesh G.S. – organising co-chairman
- Dr. Prakash .V. Suranagi. – organising secretary.
- CME Programme was attended by speakers & delegates from all over the state & from other States as well, totalling to nearly 130 members.
Dr. Umesh G.S. moderated session-1 of Glaucoma Symposium.
Dr. Prakash .V. Suranagi. delivered a talk on introduction to Diabetic Retinopathy.
2) We have now aquired a State of art Phaco-emulsification Machine & performing Cataract Surgery with foldable intra-ocular lens implantation successfully through 3 mm incision.
3) We have now performed several scleral –fixated intra- ocular lens implantation using 30 gauge straight needle, end of 10 ‘0’ prolene suture ,successfully with fairly good visual outcome.This is a good alternative for surgically induced Aphakiks with no intact posterior capsule , where regular posterior chamber IOL implantation is impossible..
4) We have now a started to perform Ophthalmic screening of Preterm neonates for Retinopathy of prematurity & have now detected a few with subtle changes.
