Observance of World AIDS Day – December 1st 2007 Davangere district has a population of 18,90,556; Male – 9,57,705 and female 9,32,851. According to the latest statistics, Davangere is one of the highest HIV Prevalent area in the state of Karnataka. Department of Community Medicine, SSIMS&RC, Davangere observed the “World AIDS Day on 1st December 2007 by organizing public awareness rally in the city. Nearly 300 students and 50 staff members took part in the above rally. During the rally, students, besides carrying banners, Pla – cards, distributed hand bills to general public, passengers and the drivers of commercial vehicles. In addition to the foregoing, catchy slogans on the prevention of this dreadful disease were aired through the public address system. The impact of rally was very effective, since it narrowed the gap between the ignorance and the knowledge about spread of HIV/AIDS. Ø Dr. B.A.Vardaraja Rao, Professor of Community Medicine, delivered lectures on Biomedical waste management, injection guidelines and hand washing techniques to staff nurses of SSIMSRH – Jan. 23rd to 28th 2006. Ø Dr. (Brig) S.C.Dua. Prof & HOD, participated in the “Capacity building workshop on Operation Research in Health” at National Institute of Health & family Welfare, New Delhi, from 11th to 15th Feb 2008. Ø Dr. B.A.Vardaraja Rao, Dr. Gopal Naik & Dr. Yuvaraj. B.Y. attended one day workshop on “Diabetes” organised by Diabetes Association of Karnataka at Bangalore on 4th May 2008. Ø Dr. Muralidhar.M.K. Asst Professor attended the XXXV Annual National Conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine held at JIPMER, Pondicherry from 23rd to 25th Jan 2008 and presented a poster on “Geriatrics”. Ø Dr. Hemagiri.K & Dr. Muralidhar.M.K were deputed as external monitors during “National Pulse Polio Programme” in Haveri & Tumkur district in January & February 2008. Ø Dr. Yuvaraj.B.Y. Asst Professor, was deputed for Filaria Survey in Bagalkot district in January 2008. Ø Dr. Hemagiri.K attended a level I ‘Methodology workshop on Basics if HIV/AIDS & Syndromic Case Management at St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bangalore from 25th to 28th Jan 2008. Ø Dr. Hemagiri.K Asst Professor attended a CME ON Control of Vector Borne Diseases” at J.N.Medical College. Belguam from 28th to 29th May 2008. Ø Dr. B.A.Vardaraja Rao, Professor, delivered a guest lecture on HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis at Govt school, Kundavad, Davangere on 7th Mar 2008. Ø Dr. B.A.Vardaraja Rao, Professor, participated & imparted health education at Blood Donation Camp, organised by Red Cross Society, Davangere branch at Devaraj Urs Layout on 08 May 2008. Dr. B.A. Vardaraja Rao, delived a talk on HIV/AIDS at Harihara Poly fibces High School on account of World AIDS day on 1st December 2005 and 2006. Dr. Brig. S.C.Dua was the chairperson for the CME on Bio-Medical Waste Management at SSIMS&RC on 19th August 2006. Dr. B.A. Varadaraja Rao, delivered a talk on Prevention and Control of Chikengunya during the Academic Body meet of July 2007. The department is organising an Under –Five Clinic on every Thursday growth monitoring, Health and Nutrition education is being imparted. Nearly 400 children are enrolled and being followed up. Dr. Muralidhar. M.K is supervising the activities at UHTC, Bashanagar. Dr. B.A. Varadaraja Rao, Dr. R.S.Gopal Naik and Dr. Muralidhar. M.K were deputed and all actively participated in “ A Consultative dialogue on improving effective bility to quality care, support and treatment services by the people living with HIV/AIDS”, Organised by Sanjeevini Network of Davangere on 13th & 14th March 2009. Dr. Muralidhar. M.K and Mrs. Rajashri.S.Patil attended a workshop on Research methodology at J.J.M.M.C; from 24th to 26th March 2009. Mrs. Rajashri.S.Patil was deputed for a 3 week workshop on effective e- teaching and learning from 18th January 2009 to 13th February 2009.
v Dept of Community Medicine conducted School Health Programme and created averseness about Influenza A H1 N1 among teachers & students of PHC Lokikere area. v Dr. Hemagiri.K was deputed to about infection control practices at Chitradurga & Karwar. v Dr. Muralidhar.M.K and Dr. Mahesh.D.K were deputed to attend one day workshop on evidence based Health care and Cochrane library. v Dr. Muralidhar. M.K attended CME and State talk force members meet of RNTCP held at Bangalore on 27th July 09. v Dr. B.A.Varadaraja Rao, imported Health Education of H1 N1 Influenza A at Basava Sangha Davangere. v Our students K.V.Shivananda Reddy, J. Balaji, Bandi Jyothi & Prashanti. L represented our college in a National Conference on Biotechnology & Clinical Research held at Indian Institute of Science , Bangalore on 2nd & 3rd of October 2009. v K.V.Shivananda Reddy presented a paper on the research topic “Prevalence of obesity overweight, weight perception and dietary behaviour and weight practices among the medical students at SSIMS&RC, Davangere. The study was guided by Dr. Muralidhar M.K & Mrs. Rajashri S Patil v J. Balaji presented a poster on the research topic under research & development category title goes as “A Retrospective Analysis of the Chest symptomatics, sputum positivity and treatment outcome in a medical college in Central Karnataka”. This study was guided by Dr. B.A.Varadaraja Rao and Dr. Muralidhar M.K. v Dr. Muralidhar.M.K delivered at guest lecture on “Prevention of Occupational Hazards” at Sai Garments factory in Davangere on 18/11/2009. The Health Education Programme was organised by the assistant director of factories and attended by 150 workers of the garment factories. v Dr. Hemagiri.K was deputed as the state level trainer for training Medical officers on HIV/AIDS at Bangalore from 8th Dec to 11th Dec 2009. v Dr. Mahesh.D.K attended a Workshop on “Geographical Information system” organised by National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi from 7th to 12th December 2009. Dr Varadaraj Rao B A and Dr Muralidhar Conducted a School Health Check up at Rashmi School organized by Youth Red Cross SSIMS & RC Dr Bheemayya talked on “Introduction and Epidemiology of HIV/AIDS” at ICTC – HIV orientation/Sensitaziation programme for paramedical staff held at SSIMS auditorium on 23rd march 2010 Dr Hemagiri. K participated in Badminton tournament for RGUHS staff held at Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary on 27th February 2010 and won II prize. Dr Hemagiri K was facilitator/resource person for training on “ Infection prevention and reduction of stigma discrimination in health care settings” held at Institute of Science & Health Administration from 9-11 March 2010, organized by State institute of Health & Family Welfare, Bangalore.
Dr Yuvaraj and Dr Mahesh D K attended a Global Consultative Meeting on “The Right To Health: A fundamental Human Right for Health and Medical Care” a initiative by RGUHS in association with CAMHADD Tri- Sector preventive Health Care Foundation and other affiliated colleges, held at Hotel Atria from 15th -17th Feb 2010. Dr Yuvaraj attended a free health camp at Halgilvada, Harapanahalli taluk on 3rd March 2010, organized by Department of Community Medicine.
